Wassup, M.u.s.c.l.e. Heads!!!
Back in the 80's, there was these little pink figures, released by Mattel, here in the States, called M.u.s.c.l.e. (Millions of Unusually Small Creatures Lurking Everywhere), which originally came from Japan's manga/anime Kinnikuman, and the figures called "kinkeshi".
I'll probably go more in depth with this line's history in future posts of M.u.s.c.l.e. Mondays, but let's kick it off with these little guys posing next to, yes, Transformers cars! lol
M.u.s.c.l.e. and Transformers, were two lines I enjoyed in the 80's growing up. The Transformers were cool cos they were really different in that they were robots that transformed into various other objects, like cars or planes. M.u.s.c.l.e. came about during the time when the WWF (Now known as the WWE, World Wrestling Entertainment) had its SuperStars, such as Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior. M.u.s.c.l.e., a line based off of a wrestling manga/anime, brought the action of wrestling into a more fantastical world for kids to play with. What I loved about M.u.s.c.l.e. was how many you can get in just one pack for $1 (at the time). Collecting the many different and unusual figures also was fueled, for me anyway, by Stan and Jan Berenstain's Berenstain Bears: Bad Dreams book, which showed Brother Bear with his many Grizzly action figures. Readingt hat story, I saw the M.u.s.c.l.e. as the Grizzly figures and it was all over then. I was hooked on collecting M.u.s.c.l.e. for life.
